Brain Vomit #40 Original

If you have the chance to make anything you want, would you make something original? I think everyone would say yes. But we are all making a version of the same thing. Maybe a little something here and there. Maybe a little more attention to this thing that others might ignore. Maybe we don't want to be misunderstood so we make things people would understand, so we make a version of this with a little bit of that other thing people like and call it original.

Being 100% original is impossible. Can you imagine a color that doesn’t exist? Everything is derivative of something else.

Doing something original comes out of necessity sometimes. You have to make it no matter what and you’ll do the most with what you have and find ingenious ways to achieve your goal. Like a weed growing through concrete, without a foundation or resources.

Being original requires you to reach your goal without a map.

If it is tried and true, a proven concept. Then it’s too late.
